The isekai you're referring to are all narou-kei. These all come from the same community of amateur web novel authors who started off writing fanfics of Familiar of Zero. Wish fulfillment, video game mechanics, and such are all tropes within their community. Also, those authors purposely like to reference each other's works and have the work be self-aware of the fact that there is a big community of web novel authors who make this sort of stuff. This is completely different from western "other world" fiction or even from other Japanese "other world" fiction like Escaflowne. Narou-kei stuff is also not just restricted to isekai, there's a few story templates that are common. You should look at the wiki page for Shosetsuka ni Naro to see a HUGE list of narou-kei works. Frieren is neither an isekai nor a narou-kei. You're really just flat out comparing apples and oranges. Also, the things you say narou-kei gets wrong are also the things that make it narou-kei. Really, we shouldn't be referring to "isekai" as a genre but rather as narou-kei as a genre.

All the movies mentioned here are really creative and new, so I get that some movies were poorly received in this ambience. Compare that to the repetitive and braindead repetition of the ever same themes and messages that modern cinema (especially sci fi) vomits up at the moment.

That same goodness is what coursed those demons to manifest in that man and reveal themselves as ‘Legion, for we are many’ The whole exorcism right is wrong in my belief as we have been given authority over demons through the name (character and nature of God) it is not the verbal name of Jesus but the actual nature of that name that has power/Authority over the demons. But there is some that are particularly strong and complex and Jesus said that when he came down from the mountain of transfiguration when the disciples couldn’t cast this demon out of the boy but Jesus did and later when they asked why they couldn’t do it Jesus said a few things ‘because of your unbelief and this kind comes out only but by Prayer and fasting’ people are not getting set free these days because Christians are not manifesting the nature and character of God. When they truly are then we will see demons manifesting all over the place because today more than ever before they truly are MANY.

Alien and the Thing made sci fi survival horror my favourite genre. Its all about the surviving against incredible odds. Its the rawest of human ingenuity. Its so satisfying and compelling story telling.

The problem with Isekai isn't the genre, but the execution(in the past 10 years or so). They keep telling the same story with different context and gimmick, with characters that are nothing but 1 dimensional archetypes there to keep the events, plot and story going. Boring, shallow writing. The genre is used as an excuse to not have any common sense, world rules and laws, since they go to another world, so the rules of the world can be anything, but usually are nothing.

I don't think Frieren has fixed anything in the isekai genre... the slew of wish fulfillment isekai will likely continue as the authors and primarily in japan, and like all writers, they tend to write what they know. Real world events and situations there aren't fantastic and much of the current generation in the workforce feel beleaguered and tired of it all. Escaping to another world is what they'd rather do - or just go on forever vacation.

They may be good, but I feel they are 100% "hand-held" as this video described it. I noticed a pattern in starwars discussions that most fans who do NOT like Andor, also tend to be strong fans of the Animated series, who describe Andor "too boring" or say things like "I watch starwars to see laser fights not ppl talk all day". Frieren is suite to us because most audience were getting passed 30's already. Me included. You learned too much to not slumber to the fantasy forever. You have things need to be done and a role to take. It's like when all fantasy ended and you've return to the real-world while carry a glimpse of magical along together with you. Andor has has the best dialogue in all of star wars. Its what ive been dreaming of since 2001. Ive been saying forever that it was time for Star Wars to grow up. To treat its audience with respect. The best cartoons and movies that truly touched me as a kid were the ones that met me where i was and where i was going. Love that level of cooperation in writing
